April 2014: Spring is in the Air
Our Spring Office Picnic events at Acorn House have been attracting great support this year. There are many new businesses opening up around King’s Cross and we are spreading the word to them about our work and encouraging them to hold picnics of their own to raise money for us. There are 9 events coming up in May. Let’s hope for lovely Spring weather to go with all that lovely effort. There’s still time to organise a picnic in your own workplace if the mood takes you. Do contact Charlie if you are in need of great picnic ideas and inspiration.
Two teams of corporate volunteers have joined our Food Chain volunteers in making our Acorn House picnics a great success and our final event of this Spring is on 16 May between 12.00 – 14.30. We’d love to see you there if you can make it. Food Chain patron, Jay Rayner, is joining us for this one and we’re hoping for a sunny day to end the season in style.
One of my favourite recipes from our picnics is Mackerel salad with roasted vegetables. Why not give it a go?
This month has also seen the first of our service users go on to the 7 day meal service with deliveries from Wiltshire Farm Foods. The early feedback is encouraging, and we have had positive comments about both the flavour and quality of the food and the friendliness of the people who deliver. We will keep a good eye on how things are going, but it is so far so good.
In the office we are welcoming new team member Aoife Kinsella as our Dietitian and wishing Deirdre McCarthy all the very best as she moves to her new role . New beginnings all round!
