November 2013: Amazing Times
What a busy and productive time this is for The Food Chain. It was fantastic to see so many people at the Silver Apple Soiree and it was a truly special event. Hearing Amanda and Mike speak of the early days of the charity was very moving and to see people on the dance floor having such a good time was great. A fine way to have fun and raise money at the same time!
It was good to meet Jay Rayner this month and lovely to welcome him to lunch with some of our service users at Eating Together. Jay has already made us known to his many followers on twitter and has some great practical ideas about how he can support us. It is very heartening that people from all walks of life continue to understand the need for our services and want to help in any way they can. We all lead such busy lives and fitting everything in is a challenge – the time that patrons, trustees, volunteers and staff give The Food Chain is what keeps us going and you simply can’t put a price on the many different contributions people make.
World Aids Day saw many more hours of hard work to raise awareness and funds. An impressive number of events took place in our support and our thanks go to everyone involved. As always we received tremendous support from our bedrock of LGBT community support in Soho.
And there’s still loads to do for Christmas - collections, food drives, cooking! We are a non-stop service and more of a lifeline than ever at this time of year.
My dish this month has a good bit of spice to ward off the winter chills and is a great British favourite – Chicken Masala! Very warming and nourishing.
Whatever you are doing at the turn of this year have a good time. We look forward to your continued support in 2014.
