John
John describes himself as having been a 'bit of a disco bunny'. Living a hectic life he ignored increasing ill health taking it as a sign that he was perhaps having too much of a good time. On discovering his HIV status when he was diagnosed with severe pneumonia he became chronically depressed. His family had nothing to do with him and he did not want to see his friends. He attempted suicide on two occasions following discharge from hospital. On a third attempt at getting him home his dietitian suggested Food Chain meals.
He says "the fact that volunteers, total strangers, were prepared to do this for me completely changed my outlook on life". He is now well enough to no longer need meals provided and is an active volunteer with us and pleased to support others who may be feeling as he did.
