Olu is from Nigeria and she became HIV positive after a politically motivated rape. She had been living alone in the UK for only a few months when it became apparent she had a severe brain infection related to her weak immune system. 

Olu needed a brain biopsy. Unfortunately complications from this resulted in severe neurological impairment, with Olu losing movement in her left arm and leg, the sight in her left eye, and the ability to taste and smell. On discharge from hospital, social services were able to offer very limited support. The Food Chain sent emergency groceries until alternative arrangements for shopping were made, and continues to send Nigerian meals on Sundays.
