Calling all volunteers and Food Chain friends
It may well be the height of summer (and how) but we are already anticipating a lovely and busy Autumn at The Food Chain. There’ll be no room for post-holiday blues, as we have such a lot to look forward to.
I do hope many of you will be able to attend the annual volunteer thank you party on September 6th.
This year we are holding the party at Positive East where The Food Chain now runs the café. There is a lovely garden there for the start of our festivities as well as the opportunity to see the café space. As always there will be entertainment and delicious food. See you there!
We are also delighted that a former Food Chain volunteer, Mark Dunne, is arranging a gathering of some of the many volunteers who have been involved with The Food Chain over the years. What a great idea in our 30th anniversary year. People will bring a dish and come together on Sunday 23rd September at Positive East so share memories and reflect on the 3 decades that have gone by since that first Christmas Day service in 1988. It’s an open invitation to everyone who has volunteered with The Food Chain at any time in our history – so please do spread the word and come along if you can. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
My biggest personal challenge of the autumn will undoubtedly be the 30 for 30 Thames Path walk. You would think that my 3 Peaks adventure last year would have finished me off, but not quite! I’ve signed up for the full 30 miles and do hope that there will be lots of people to keep me company along the way.
We will end the day with cake (of course) and a little light refreshment at a pub near Tower Bridge. I think that sounds lovely for a Saturday evening in September. Go on, you know we bake a good cake….sign up here!
We are also welcoming a new partner organisation to the Acorn House kitchen in September. Cook ethos is a new web based platform for multicultural cooking lessons and supper clubs hosted by local people.
We are delighted that they have booked the kitchen at Acorn House to hold supper clubs and classes during September. The menu for these events looks great and we wish them the very best of luck with filling the spaces. To learn more about these events, click here.
