GS1 UK’s Three Peaks Challenge
GS1 UK is sending a team of 24 walkers and a support crew to take on the Three Peaks Challenge in June.
The walkers are climbing three of the highest peaks in the UK – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – as part of their continued support of The Food Chain. To make this already ambitious task even trickier, all 24 walkers have set themselves a time limit of just one day (including travel time) in which to scale all three peaks.
Conquering the Three Peaks in 24 hours will surely prove to be a real test of physical and mental resolve for the GS1 walking team; although it’s not the first time employees of the not-for-profit organisation have braved an endurance test in order to raise funds. In September 2013 11 cyclists journeyed from London to Brussels in just three days, inspiring over £8,000 in donations to support people living with HIV in London.
Eighteen months ago, GS1 UK chose The Food Chain to be their Charity of the Year until 2015. GS1 UK set standards, using unique numbers, for global use which makes the reliable identification of products and assets possible. There is a clear link between GS1 UK’s work in improving food supply chains and those who need access to good, nutritious food in order to improve their quality of life.
Over the last year-and-a-half, GS1 UK has worked tremendously hard to generate funds for us by holding regular events and fundraisers within the company, including weekly dress-down days, cake sales and quiz evenings. Employees also provided frequent pro-bono support around marketing and communications, and continue to offer ideas and guidance following a period of transition which has seen significant changes to our meal and grocery services.
Our team were truly delighted to accept a cheque from GS1 UK for £5,714.65 (right) in April; the latest of many kind donations which have been made since the start of our partnership. Since October 2012, the company have raised the magnificent total of £20,633.17
Next up for GS1 UK is a Spring Office Picnic in May, before they replace picnics for peak-bagging in June. If you would like to sponsor the walker’s joint effort online, you can do so on Virgin Money Giving. All donations go directly to The Food Chain.
Good luck and thank you GS1 UK!
