2023’s London display of the UK AIDS Memorial Quilts this World AIDS Day will be taking place on Sunday 3rd December.
The UK AIDS Memorial Quilt is an irreplaceable piece of social history. It tells the stories of many of those lost in the early days of the HIV AIDS epidemic in the 80’s and 90’s. In total there are 48 twelve foot by twelve foot panels, each comprising up to 8 smaller panels. Each individual panel commemorates someone who died and has been lovingly made by their friends, lovers or family.
The
UK AIDS Memorial Quilt Partnership of HIV charities across the UK endeavours to
display the
quilts as often as possible in order to raise awareness of the quilt and its importance in our history. You can watch a short film about our 2021 London
display here.
The display will be held at Positive East, 159 Mile End Rd, Bethnal Green, London E1 4AQ. The building is fully accessible.
The event is free and open to all. We hope to see you there!
