Eating Positively

The Food Chain > Get Support > Eating Positively

Eating Positively is our course of four Nutrition and Cookery classes.

It is taught by a qualified Dietitian and a Volunteer Chef, with assistance from Food Chain volunteers. This course aims to provide Service Users with a greater understanding of nutrition and how to eat a balanced varied diet, as well as practical demonstrations in preparing meals.

Eating Positively aims to:

  • Help people better manage their own health.
  • Reduce people’s risk of developing further health complications.
  • Improve people’s overall quality of life· Increase people’s confidence in the kitchen… and teach practical cooking skills.

Each class is on a specific nutritional topic:

Class 1: Introduction to HIV and Nutrition
Class 2: Eating Well on a Budget & Managing Symptoms
Class 3: Keeping your Heart Healthy
Class 4: Reducing your risk of Diabetes

Each class includes nutritional theory, a cooking demonstration and a supervised cooking exercise, after which participants sit down to eat the food they cooked together. All participants go home with class information and recipe handouts.
