Nutrition Education

The Food Chain > Get Support > Nutrition Education

Nutrition education is a core service offer at The Food Chain, to ensure everyone in our community is equipped with the knowledge they need to:

  • help better manage their own health
  • reduce the risk of developing further health complications
  • improve their overall quality of life
  • increase their confidence in the kitchen.

Our HIV Specialist Dietitians and Nutritionists are constantly developing their skills through working practice, clinical supervision and extensive CPD. As an organisation, we implement this expertise through:

  • personalised nutrition care plans at point of assessment
  • ongoing Dietetic advice and guidance over the phone, by email and face to face
  • nutrition talks delivered at Eating Together communal meals
  • representation on national health group committees including the British Dietetic Association (BDA) Dietitians in HIV Care Specialist Group and BASHH’s Bloodbourne Virus specialist interest group
  • contributions to national clinical best practice guidelines such as the BDA’s Dietitians in HIV Care Competencies Framework, The Manual of Dietetic Practice, and resources for HCPs

We also aim to share this knowledge more widely – there are a couple of ways you can get involved:

Online cookery classes

We have a number of cook-along videos available to watch on YouTube, with each recipe specially designed to be high in nutritional value but also cost effective. Scroll down to “Cook along with us” for the link!

Nutrition talks

We are keen to spread the word outside of our usual networks too! Our dietetic team are available to speak at external events – we’ve worked with other charities, educational institutions and corporate organisations. Our talks range in topics from general Introduction to Nutrition or Eating Well on a Budget, all the way to specialised sessions on Diabetes and Frailty. They can also include a practical element if facilities allow – getting participants cooking along together and then sitting down to enjoy the fruits of their labour!

Our booking request form can be downloaded here, alternatively call 02078431800 for a general chat.
